Valentine's Day Cards

I love these cards I made.  I especially love the Sizzx embossing folder with that pretty/shimmery deep red paper. That was part of a Recollections paper package that Michaels sold just for V-Day.  It was deceiving as I thought I was just getting red but if you flipped the paper over, it was a shimmery deep red. 

The image is from Tiddly Inks and I colored with Prismacolor pencils.  Still trying to get the hang of that.  The sentiment is from my new Scrappy Moms stamp release ("Love Notes").  I glittered the wings, and stickled some hair. 

The last two photographs were made with my homemade Wild Plum Glimmer Mist. I distressed the white cardstock, sprayed it with my mist, crumpled it in my hand and then dried it.  What do you think?  I think it needs something. I'm going to try to make some handmade paper flowers and so this may not be the last you've seen of these cards.    :)

HOMEMADE GLIMMER MIST

Here's my attempt at making Glimmer Mist.  I used the Adirondack re-inkers that I got at Michaels (Going from Left to Right in a clockwise circle:  Eggplant, Lettuce, Wild Plum, Cranberry, Butterscotch, Stream).  The spray container is the Mini-Mister (3 in a pack from Michaels).  The glimmer ingredient comes from the Perfect Pearls powder (4 in a package at Michaels).   

The basic recipe for each mister is as follows:  3/4 container of water, 2 scoops of powder (used a wood coffee stirrer from Starbucks) followed by 10-20 drops of ink into the mister.  Shake and voila... Glimmer Mist. 

Going from left to right (AGAIN), I used Eggplant ink with 2 small scoops of "pearl powder."  I used "lettuce" and  "gold powder" for the light green spray.  I used Wild Plum with "gold powder."  With Cranberry ink, I used "bronze powder."  For the butterscotch spray, I used "copper powder."  With the Stream ink, I used the "bronze powder."

I then sprayed the sample white (Georgia-Pacific/Walmart) cardstock and then used my hot heat embossing gun and dried the paper.  In retrospect, I should have dabbed a paper towel to absorb some of the water and then heat gunned it.  

On some of the samples (the purple and the green), I had to do repeat the 'mist/heat-gun' step to make the paper darker.

My only complaint is that I wish the misters were bigger. The spray nozzle is perfect however the amount of liquid it holds is small and therefore by creating these swatches, I already used 1/4 of my mister solution. 

And here is the little container box that I made to hold the re-inkers, the perfect pearls, and the misters.  I got the container box for $1 at Michaels.

Mom... I'M FREAKING OUT!!!!

Today's card is a card that I created after hearing about an 'incident' that my friend, Miss Turtle, had recently.

It was Miss Turtle's mother's birthday... so Miss Turtle decided to surprise her mother with a birthday breakfast when her mother got out of the shower.  Her mother was so happy and surprised to see the wonderful breakfast that Miss Turtle made for her.  She ate her breakfast and they got ready to go to school.  As they were preparing to leave, Miss Turtle realized that there was a homework assignment that she forgot about.  Panic overtook her.  She had not had a late homework to date for the school year.  She did not want her record tarnished.  She was frantic.  My friend, being the very calm and rational mother that she is, told Miss Turtle that it would be ok.  It was just one homework assignment.  

As they were going to school, they stopped at the red light.  Suddenly, from the back seat came an explosive "I'M FREAKING OUT."  Her mother, realizing how very important this was for Miss Turtle, explained that she can start working on her homework and that they would sit in the car until she was finished with her homework.  This reduced Miss Turtle's "Freaking Out" Level to 'manageable.'  She was able to finish her homework and bolt from the car into class before the last bell.

I made this card for Miss Turtle as I could just hear her bellowing "I'M FREAKING OUT!"

I know you are lurking on my blog Miss Turtle... and this message is for you.  I know it wasn't a funny situation when you were going through all that.  But one day, you will find this card and remember that day... and you'll think to yourself "Wow, that wasn't such a big deal after all."   They'll be other days when you'll want to freak out.  And it's ok to say "MOM, I'M FREAKING OUT"... but try not to let it upset you too much because one day, you won't even remember what you were freaking out... (unless I made a card about that also).

We all make boo-boos in life:  teachers, moms, police officers, and yes, even me!!! (hahahaha).  I bet there are a lot of followers here on the blog that have had their share of Freaking Out Days when they were growing up.  Those mistakes teach us something.  So, don't be afraid to make a mistake.  It's not a bad thing

A card for your sweetheart on Valentine's Day (or just because)

A simple card for Valentine's Day or "just because."  I LOVE Just Because cards, especially if it's for someone you care for.

My photos aren't very good.  Perhaps it's because I had the cardboard platform on my bed (which is not flat, as I don't make my bed... often... ok, rarely.   KIDS, do NOT repeat this at home).  OR perhaps it's because I had a Chiweenie, just off of camera view, wanting to step on the platform as if it were a teeter-totter,... OR perhaps, it's because I STILL can't take a decent photo of my cards.

I'm gambling on the last one.

I did want to say that I bought a QuikStick from Amazon for $12.97 (free shipping if you can go in with a bunch of people to order it.  Or, in my case, if you order your mother TWO COPIES of a book called "How We Die."  [Yes, you read correctly.])

I digress... back to the Quikstick... the first time I used it was to put the confetti on the cake (for this card).  WHO MADE THIS THING??? It is... BRILLIANT!!!

It's like when you were a kid and went to someone's house and they had a MICROWAVE.  And you all stood close (even though you weren't supposed to) and watched the cheese start to melt all over the tortilla.  What a NOVEL IDEA!!!!! 

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT... to the 5 people that read these posts weekly(and I thank you for your support!).

 

Happy Easter

I decided to bring out my 3 Birds Cartridge:

The stamp was in the $1 Michaels bin. I stickled a light green color on it.  Both ribbons were $1 at Michaels.  I embossed the background with the same stamp.  The white flowers were found in a pack in the bridal section at Michaels (Yes, I wish I had a Hobby Lobby!!!)

I saw Anna today, and she made another card.  We took a photo of it and here it is!!!! She DEFINITELY has the Cricut bug! She's having a lot of fun visiting all the video sites... You GO GIRL!
