Happy Fall Y'all... and some photos from our Photo Class (night) field trip

Here's a card I made using my Copics Coloring skills.... LOL.
It's my Fall Card!  (Probably my only one this season...).
I used my La-La Land stamps and Copics markers.... I'm trying to get this coloring technique down. AGH.
"Harvest Blessing" came from CardzTV's Stamp Set.

This card was sent to my dear friend Tammy, of Tammy's Spot... who I've never met but who I consider a wonderful friend here in this blogging community. Besides being an avid dog lover, she makes the most amazing cards- she uses so many techniques and infuses humor in her posts and cards.
She's an inspiration!

Sentiment is from Hero Arts.  Die cut is from Paper Trey Ink

Isn't this sweet?  I picked it up at a dog bakery on Bainbridge Island when I was up in Seattle.

Amuse-Bouche:
Tonight was our night field trip for my photo class.  It was a lot of fun.  I'll share some of the photos and techniques below however you may already know how to do this stuff....   For those of you who didn't know your cameras do these things... check out below.
I used 2 cameras tonight:  a SLR Canon camera as well as a fabulous little 'point and click' Panasonic that I bought at Costco.  If you have a SLR or you have a Point and Click--- you CAN do this.

Photo 1:
Here was are, in Newport Beach, looking at the Balboa Pavilion.  No flash....

Exercise #1

Now I am taking a photo of the same area (USING A TRIPOD)  but I put the camera setting on  F/stop 8, ISO 200 and taking a shutter speed of 4 seconds ( The next few photos are the same settings but the photos are taken at 8 seconds, 10 seconds, and 15 seconds). The captions will explain what the photo was taken at...

Same settings, except now a shutter speed of 4 seconds (notice, more light in the photo)

Same settings, except now a shutter speed of 8 seconds (much more light in photo, lighting up the scene)
*Sorry, despite using tripod, a little blurry.

Same settings, except now a shutter speed of 10 seconds (much more light)... Still no flash.

Same settings, except now a shutter speed of 15 seconds (look at all the light!)-- still no flash.

Exercise #2
Using the same area, and no flash, we set our cameras on F/stop : 8 and 8 second exposure.  This means that the camera is taking the photo over 8 seconds. During this time period, my teacher was standing near the boat and flashed a strobe at the boat. He immediately then started shining a flashlight on the boat and the surrounding areas.  The strobe/flashlight lit up the boat and area.  Because the 8 second exposure took in all this, you never see my teacher (as he was moving around, shining the light on the boat and surrounding areas) but you can see the area that he lit up.
Again, no flash on this photo.  The actual scene looks like just photo #1 at the top (darkness) but because he is putting light on the boat, etc... it looks lit up)

In this technique, our teacher, had a fellow student walk across the dark sand (again, no flash used in this photo).  He walked in front of her, shining the flashlight on her-- this lit her up in the photo. (The flashlight wasn't anything big. Just a normal flashlight).  In the meantime, our camera was set on F/stop 8 and a 15 second exposure.  This means the camera was taking the photo over 15 seconds (the camera was on a tripod to keep it steady).  This is the result.
SUPER NEATO!
Again, there was no additional lighting.  The actual beach area was dark, just like photo #1 above.

OK, this is my 8 second exposure that I took on my little Panasonic point and click. I took this photo on an ISO 200, F/stop 8, with a 8 second exposure.  Because my camera wasn't on a tripod for this photo, this is what I got.  Obviously my hand was not steady during the 8 seconds...
I call this my "Electric Light Parade photo." (here comes the Disneyland music). LOL

On this photo, I had the camera on a F/stop 8, ISO 200, and an 8 second exposure (or perhaps it was 15 seconds),.... I was using the SLR and I zoomed the lens in as the 8 seconds passed.
Because the camera lens is open for 8 seconds and the lens is zooming in-- this is the STAR WARS effect we get.

And so concludes my night field trip....
Thank you and Come again....  :)

A CARD FOR A BOY...

I made this card for my friend's son.  (It's my best shot at a masculine/boy's card).

The clouds were hand-cut.  I used a cloud stamp from a stamp set I bought at Stamp Fever.  The stamp set is from Studio Calico/Hero Arts called "Hooray."  The cloud was stamped with "soap powder" from Jenni Bowlin ink.
The airplane image is from Tremendous Treats from Paper Trey Ink.  I colored it with Copics and a silver gel pen/Stickles.  The edges were dusted with Distress Ink (sponge pad).

The sentiment stamp is from Mary at CardzTV.

"Going Buggy" with Cardztv Stamps

Here is my fourth card featuring Mary's "Going Buggy" cardstamp set.

You can find more of Mary's fabulous stamps HERE.

I used a Hero Arts CLING stamp with white ink on pink paper.  I cut the buggy from Simply Charmed (Cricut).  The stamped face is from Peachy Keen stamps.  The paper is actually white cardstock but I made the flesh color using Tea Dye Distress ink.  The black wheels are actually white cardstock that was inked with Black Soot Distress Ink as was the pink fringe to the buggy.  I used Worn Lipstick Distress ink to color the fringe.  The sheen on the buggy is from pink Liquid Pearl.  Pink Stickles were used on the bow.
The sentiment was stamped with Melon Mambo.  I cut the corners on the white sentiment cardstock by hand and layered it on rectangle pink cardstock.

Cricut Challenge with Cardztv "Going Buggy" stamp!

Here is my third card featuring the Going Buggy set from Cardztv
I'm actually entering a challenge (Shock.... Awe).  It's Mary's Cricut Challenge.  See HERE.

You have until February 28, to enter.  All you need to do is incorporate stitching (faux or real).

This card that I made used an EK Success (3-layer) butterfly punch with various color pattern paper.  I used my Tim Holtz paper piercer and stitched with a needle and embroidery thread that I had purchased at Michaels.  I also used clear Stickles on the butterfly wings.
The sentiment is from Mary's "Going Buggy" sentiment set (found HERE).    I stamped it with Jenni Bowlin's Lavender Sachet.

"Bee Happy" with Cardztv Stamps

Here's my second card featuring Cardztv Stamps (card # 1 can be found on the post of February 21, 2012).

For this card, I used a combination of two Penny Black background stamps from the clear stamps called "Trims."  I stamped them in white ink and Melon Mambo (Stampin' Up).
I cut two mattes from Elegant Edges (Green and the pattern paper). The bee came from Create a Critter (Cricut) with Liquid Pearl on the antennaes and distressed with Tea Dye ink.  Stickles were placed on the blue wings. "Bee Happy" was stamped in Melon Mambo and cut with a Spellbinders Nestability.

A week of Cardztv Stamps!!!!

I recently won a set of Cardztv Stamps over at Mary's blog.    Mary let me choose the set I'd like. I selected "GOING BUGGY." They're so cute. They can be used with colored stamped images or with Cricut Cartridges. PERFECT for Spring!

I have made a card for every day this week to showcase one of her sentiments!!!

Here we go with Card #1.

The image came from Campin' Critter (Cricut Cartridge).  I used Walnut Stain Distress Ink to color the bear and Ranger's White/Enamel liquid drops for the eye.  The Banner came from Stand and Salute (Cricut Cartridge) and was distressed with my Tea Dye Distress Ink pad.  The green paper was stamped with a 'bee' stamp using Versamark Dazzle stamp. The bee hive was cut from Cricut's Create a Critter with textured Bazzill cardstock.  I took yellow Liquid Pearls to simulate honey dripping down the side.  I also drew by hand little lines on the bear paws to mimic digits.  The sentiment was stamped with Brown Sugar (Jenni Bowlin ink).

Happy Veterans Day

I hope you all had a happy Veterans Day and had the opportunity to thank a veteran or someone currently serving in the military.

I made this Thanksgiving card with a Pink Cat Studios Digi-image.  I used a lot of Glossy Accents, Stickles, and Sakura Glitter pen.  This image was cut out and is on an Action Wobble.

The sentiment on the inside is from Mary at Cardztv with a watermark of "happy bird day" that came from Paper Trey Ink's stamp set.

Gobble Gobble!

Happy Turkey Day!   This is the sentiment stamp from Mary at Cardztv.  I wanted to pull out my dusty Cricut (I'm having problem with the blade cutting cleanly so I haven't been using it.  It's hardly been used since I got it...  I guess I should read the instructions...) and Voila- here is my turkey.  The background pumpkins are actually cut out from a thin scrapbooking paper (paper piecing).  The sentiment is Mary's and was stamped with Jenni Bowlin's Brown Sugar ink.  The banner is Lawn Fawn's.
The actual size of the card is 4.25" x 4.25."

Amuse-bouche:
Rain is due in So Cal this weekend. :(

Thanksgiving card with Mary's Stamps at CARDZTV!

I saw this "pumpkin pickin'" sentiment stamp on Mary's Thanksgiving stamp set... and wanted to create a card for it.  I created the pumpkins out of the Simply Charmed cartridge (with embossed dots on the Cuttlebug).  The orange background was made with Distress Ink (pads), Spiced Marmalade on orange cardstock.  The "pumpkin pickin'" sentiment and "Happy Turkey Day" came from Mary's stamp set.   Mary has a line of stamps that you can buy (click HERE).  I got her Thanksgiving set.  Cute little stamps!!!  I couldn't find Thanksgiving ribbon at Michael's so I found this in the Christmas section for 50% off.

Martha Stewart punch-around-the-page.
